11.24.08 Working your home based business
and making money on the internet takes some
special effort. Your work from business most likely
requires you communicate with leads on a regular
basis.

Today I am going to talk about converting
sales.

This is for anyone selling a M.L.M, Biz Opp,
or any product or service for that matter.

There are two approaches to "closing" sales...

I'll call them "guided" and "voluntary".

Going for a guided close takes place during
direct, person-to-person conversation.

That might be on the phone, or at the end of a
meeting.

You're there in conversation with your prospect
and it's decision time.

They've gone through a presentation, and now
it's your turn to go for the sale and "close"
the deal...

Many pros have mastered this game.

They have a response for every objection. They
have a list of their prospects desires, their
wish list, and their emotional triggers which
they acquired from the previous "interview"
conversation.

They will personally "guide" them down a path
that leads to a purchase.

If you are skilled at the guided close, that
prospect is going to "buy" today whether they
want to or not.

That is because extremely talented sales people
are the top producers in their company.

Most everyone is taught this "direct" approach.

**But it is NOT the best way to keeping sales
without refund requests.

The voluntary close works best, which is why
I utilize it.

This is where a prospect "sells themselves"
and makes the decision to purchase on their
own.

Now both methods use salesmanship and influence.

The primary difference between the two is that
the prospect is not put on the spot or asked to
make a decision by you directly on a phone call
or in person. Automatic emails followup educates
and encourages your prospect to upgrade *softly*.

There are several reasons why the voluntary
approach is much more powerful than a guided
approach, and it comes down to one primary
piece of psychology:

"A person convinced against their will is of
the same opinion still."

Many times during a guided sale, the person
is buying for the wrong reason.

It usually comes down to giving into the sales
pressure which always leads to buyer's remorse
shortly after.

The salesperson gets the prospects' emotions
flowing and they have no time to think logically
which is the recipe that always leads to a sale
which is why it's the primary tool of choice
for direct response marketers.

This "heart only" approach is extremely effective,
but counter-productive for the Biz Opp or M/L/M
industry because you are not making a one-time
sale...

You are looking for the years of commitment it
will take to build a successful business.

Unfortunately, once those emotions dissipate
and logic sets in, the person may regret the
decision they made and they usually end up
quitting within days or weeks.

The ideal situation is where the prospects
head catches up with their heart in order to
make a "whole" decision which leads to a
"voluntary purchase".

You don't want to convince your prospects to
buy, YOU WANT THEM TO CONVINCE THEMSELVES to
buy, and then voluntarily make the purchase
WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT FOR THEM.

Once they make their choice, it will be much
more concrete and in order to stay congruent
with that choice, they will work much harder
and stay dedicated longer because "it was
their idea".

Now a voluntary approach doesn't mean that
you're going to just act all "nice and sweet"
and not go for the sale.

You're still going sell the hell out of
them. :-)

But you're going to do it indirectly through
tools and marketing instead of direct personal
pressure.

You want to hit your prospects with a new
marketing piece every few days whether it's
through email, a letter, a website, a postcard...
Whatever.

You still are going to push those same emotional
buttons, and I'm still going to ask for the sale,
but you are not going to do it directly through
personal conversation.

It's this marketing "drip-drip-drip" process
OVER TIME that allows their head to catch up
with their heart and make the fully committed
decision.

Here's a guideline to follow:

You must be completely willing to let a sale go.

1: A lead is generated and a quick introductory
phone call or email could be made just to let
them know that you are a real person. Ask them
a few questions, BUT, it's not to build up "ammo"
like their finding out their "reason why" so
you can bring it back up later when it's
"decision time".

Ask questions because you want to find out if
this is someone I want to personally work with.
Find a reason NOT to work with them or sell
them product because the wrong customers/partners
will cost you MUCH more than you'll ever make
in the long run... like your valuable time!

This qualification process is evident to the
prospect through the verbal and non-verbal cues
that are expressed during the conversation. Things
like energy level, voice level, tonalities, etc...
are what you focus on from them.

Now you're probably wondering what all of those
are, but honestly, if you truly see yourself as
a pro, you'll unconsciously start conveying these
traits automatically.

2: If you like the person, give them the address
to the business overview via email and then instruct
them verbally and in the email to contact you when
they're done.

Because they came though a capture page when they
became a lead, they are already in your marketing
pipeline.

At this point, the ball is completely in your court.

NEVER chase people. You are too busy for that and
chasing money sounds like desperation and that rings
LOUD and CLEAR. Think of your business in a state
of abundance (whether it is or not). There is no
neediness to chase sales.

NEVER schedule follow-up calls on your prospect's
terms. They MUST call you when you feel like
doing so. If you're positioning yourself correctly,
they will be excited and feel privileged that you
contacted them.

(This is something pretty foreign to most who
deal with prospects who never return their phone
calls and voicemail).

3: Once they do contact you, they're going to
have some questions which you will answer in a
very friendly manner.

For the rest of the call, remain silent.

Don't ask them to get started and don't try to
keep the conversation going.

Dead spots in a conversation ARE AWKWARD. You want
to make them feel off-balance and then force them
to fill the dead air.

Your attitude is that you called me to ask me some
questions which I will answer, and that's it.
Anything else that we discuss is up to you.

Because you're unwilling to keep the conversation
going or try to talk them into getting started,
you are in the position of power.

In any relationship, the person who cares the
least holds the power.

So I'm just going to answer their questions and
then sit there. They're testing me and my
leadership frame whether they realize it or
not.

And you know what happens 9 times out of 10
because you didn't take the bait and chased
them...

They fill that awkward silence with statements
like, "So what's next? How do I get started?"

Now in order for this method to work, you must
TRULY see yourself as a leader and live in a
mindset of abundance. If you don't and you're
just pretending to act this way on a phone call,
they will see straight through it.

You cannot pretend in anyway. You must truly
live and believe that mindset.

11.14.08 If you work at home, have a home based business, and wish to make money on the internet, then you may already be aware of the importance of creating a vision of your success. Your vision of success is as important in your home based work and making money online as it is in every other aspect of your life.

Some easy to follow guidelines for creating your vision are given in this article by James Ray.

How do you start creating your vision? The guidelines for writing down your vision are the same as those for creating your new mindset:

• Make your vision as real, concrete and comprehensive as possible. Create a picture that includes your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Find your own individual harmony between personal and professional. Be honest about what harmony is good for you, and take into account all three levels of your vision: Be, Do and Have. Life is meant to be fulfilling and complete in all areas
  
  
• Think in an unlimited way. Let go of all limitations in your thinking and just allow yourself to dream. Approach your vision knowing that you can have anything and everything that you desire. All things are possible through the power of spirit and your magnificent mind.
  
  
• Be sure to use the present tense. You must be able to see yourself already living the good that you desire. Say "I am a millionaire" rather than "I will be a millionaire." Your millions may not have come to you yet, but this is what you're programming into your unconscious mind. If you tell your unconscious mind, "I will be a millionaire," you are not being a millionaire.
  
  
• Make your vision emotional. Let emotion fuel your vision. The unconscious cannot distinguish between something that actually happens and something that is vividly imagined, so use vivid, colorful, emotional words to give your vision power.
  
  
• Be careful to state what you do want, not what you don't want. If I tell you, "Don't think about an ice cream cone," what do you have to think of? You have to think about what not to think about in order not to think about it. If one of your goals is "to have no sick days," you'll have to think about sick days. It's better to think about being "continuously healthy."
  
  
• Be in the picture, not just an observer looking at it. As I've said, when I ask people to do this exercise, they almost always find that they are looking at themselves in the picture. This doesn't work. You must be in the picture of your new vision.
  

If you're looking at yourself in the picture, you're telling your unconscious that it's not really you, that you're not really in the picture yet. When you're actually in the picture, you already have your new life. You are telling your unconscious, "This is real!" Your unconscious immediately goes about creating that reality. See what you would see if you were in the picture, not looking at yourself in the picture.

11.13.08 Thanksgiving and Christmas are just about here, and the season brings with it the increase in shopping. If you have a home based business and make money online, you certainly should be taking advantage of this time of the year. It is not an issue of taking advantage of people, but an issue of letting everyone know about the product or service you provide, so they can find you.

Recently I was thinking about successful people versus unsuccessful people. What is the difference? What is the secret ingredient to success? Why are some people successful, while others stay stuck in unpleasant circumstances? As I began my search for the answers, I noticed one common denominator in all of the people who were successful. They worked hard to get where they are.

Throughout most of my life, I was a person that gave up when it got hard. I was all for hard work as long as I was seeing immediate results, but once I began to feel that my efforts were futile, I stopped trying. I would begin thinking, "What's the point, I'm not getting anywhere anyway. Why bother?" And then I would give up altogether. How many of us do that?

It's so frustrating when we see others that seem to have it so easy. They are driving around in nice cars, living in beautiful homes and enjoying the good life. Their success seems so effortless. What we don't see is the years of constant work, struggle and yes, even failures, that got them to where they are today. We don't see the inner fears they had to overcome in order to be so confident and successful.

It's important to realize that success does not belong only to those who have high-priced educations. Success does not belong only to those who have money. Success does not belong only to those who are "lucky." Success belongs only to those who are willing to work for it.

In this age of instant gratification, we have a society of people who are always looking for the easy way out. Myself included. We are always looking for the "magic ticket" to a life of luxury and ease. For most of us, there will be no magic ticket. We must create our own ticket with the sweat from our very own brows - and there is no magic involved. But is that such a terrible thing? I propose that we change the perception that hard work is so unpleasant. It doesn't have to be. Hard work with no destination or goal in mind may be unpleasant, but what if we are working hard for a reason? What if we view hard work as an opportunity? An opportunity to create a better life for ourselves and our families. An opportunity to experience a sense of satisfaction in creating the life we've always dreamed of.

It is also important to work smart in addition to working hard. In any endeavor, there are always a select few activities that are more important than the rest. Many of us work hard on the wrong things because we are too frightened or intimidated to work on the important tasks. We need to get clear on exactly where we want to go, and focus on the specific activities that will get us there. If you want to be a writer, your number one task is to write. It's great to research publishers, query letters and related information, but if you never actually write the book, where will that get you? If you want to find more customers for your business, focus on promoting and advertising your products and services. If you want to lose weight, focus on making better food choices and increasing your physical activity. Focus the majority of your time on those select few activities that will create results. It's not rocket science. Most of us know exactly what we need to do to achieve our goals, but we hold back out of fear or pure laziness. We spend our time on activities that won't give us the results we desire, and then complain when we don't get anywhere. We may be working hard, but we are not working smart.

Finally, be willing to continue working hard even if you are not seeing the results you desire. If you give up, then you definitely won't be successful. Be one of those people that simply refuses to give up. Believe that success is just around the next bend in the road. I recently read the story of a man who wanted to become an attorney. He failed the bar exam 47 times, finally passing it on the 48th attempt. When he was asked what kept him going back to try again, he said, "Every time I took the exam, I was sure I had passed it." With each attempt, he thought success was just around the corner. I wonder if he would have given up if he had known it would take so long to pass it? But he didn't give up, and he was finally successful.

It is so exhilarating to know that we can create our own success, just as countless millions have done before us. We don't need to have any more talent or ability than others have. We don't need to be intellectual geniuses. We simply need to be willing to do the work.

11.8.08 Winter is finally knocking on the door today with a high temperature of 40 degrees and 25 mile an hour winds with cloudy, gray skies. But the great thing I want to write about today is, that if you have a home based business and make money on the internet, this is a really great time of the year!

Working at home and making money online is never better than the winter season. This is when everyone gets into the spending mood with the holidays coming up soon.

Now is the time to really press hard in your marketing efforts. You had better, because you can be assured that your competition is doing just that.

It is important to make the decisions that will prosper your business.

Decision-making seems like it should be a simple process, but sometimes we can find ourselves vacillating back and forth between one or more choices, truly unable to make a solid decision.

One of the things that makes decision-making so unnerving is the fear of making a wrong move. We may hesitate about making any kind of decision because we're not sure of what the outcome will be. We get mired in "what ifs," paralyzed by fears of what could go wrong. We worry that choosing wrong will cause an avalanche of bad luck to tumble onto our heads, or even worse, our decision will be wrong AND irreversible.

However, even worse than making the wrong decision is letting our fear prevent us from making any decision at all. This, in itself, is a choice, and not always one that serves our highest good. Rather than allowing ourselves to feel confused and paralyzed with fear, it can be useful to have a simple decision-making process to fall back on when we just can't seem to make up our minds.

Following are techniques that can help you gain the clarity to make wiser decisions for yourself:

1) Clear your mind. First take a few minutes to get into a relaxed state of mind and release all fears and worries. This will help you to think more logically, rather than getting stuck on emotional responses.

2) Listen for signals. Bring each choice to mind individually, and pay attention to the responses from your body. Does one choice make your gut tighten up in apprehension? Does another choice make you feel a bit giddy or hopeful? Do you get a sense of dread from any options? Your intuition is a powerful tool that is always speaking to you. You just need to get quiet, tune in, and listen to what it says.

3) Consider the pros and cons. This is an old trick that is still quite effective. Rather than relying on your emotional impulses, you can look logically at the benefits and downfalls of each choice. Writing them down on paper is even better, because it can help you to see clearly which choice seems most beneficial. Sometimes this technique alone is enough to help you decide one way or another.

4) Consider the consequences. Though few of us have the ability to see the future in great detail, we can imagine a likely outcome to any choice we make. By thinking about these potential consequences, we stand a better chance of understanding which choice would be better for us in the long run. Two good questions to ask during this process are: "What could possibly happen if I make this decision?" and "Is it likely to happen?" Sometimes you'll discover that your fears are out of proportion to the likely consequences, and once you realize the likelihood is small, you will be more confident in finally making a decision.

5) Choose. That's the hardest part, I know. But again, even NOT making a decision is a choice in itself. Wouldn't you rather have control of your choices, rather than letting your inaction bring about its own consequences? After using the techniques above, you should have a pretty solid idea of which choice is best for you.

Most importantly, remember that truly "wrong" decisions in life are rare. Rather, each choice has a corresponding consequence. Some of these consequences may seem positive, some may seem negative, but ultimately none of them are really "wrong" for us. (Except destructive choices that result in harm to yourself or another. Those I would consider definitely bad or wrong choices.)

But in a general sense, every decision we make simply moves us down a particular path in life. If we later decide we don't like that path, we do have the power to choose another direction. But even the paths we decide we don't like have something positive to offer us. We learn and grow in wisdom with every decision. We get to know ourselves better and better, and each decision we make later will be more in line with who we truly are, and the lives we want to create for ourselves.

You may think that you are going to have to spend a truck load of money now for marketing if you wish to be competitive, but that's not the case at all. In fact, the marketing that will help you the most will not cost you anything at all, or at worst, very little.

There is a whole group of experts and regular folks like you and I that work together and can help each of us to learn these marketing techniques quickly and easily, so that you can put them to use in time for the coming holiday season.
