American Flag | Online Discount Benefits Home Business | Kevin Farrell

2.27.09 I have heard many cynical remarks through the years about people who display the American flag. These remarks are from other Americans tending to take the viewpoint that flag flying is primarily done by the ignorant and foolish.

I have a completely different view. I think most people displaying the American flag have valid and deep meaning reasons for doing so. I offer a few of these reasons here.

The American flag represents unity
of individuals and states of the ideals set forth in the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution. Ideals of individual freedom, safety, comfort, and the right to pursue the life of your choice.

The American flag represents protection
of our collective rights, protection from harm, protection of our families and our way of life.

The American flag represents liberty and the freedom to follow the path of our choosing, freedom to live where and how we choose to live, freedom to pursue our dreams and achieve the highest goals we can imagine, freedom to travel, freedom to explore, freedom to follow our passion.

The American flag represents honor as we hold in high esteem those who serve in public office, those who design and implement programs that afford help to the needy, those who serve the public as fireman, police, and first responders, those who dedicate their lives to improving the lives of others both in the U.S. and outside it.

The American flag represents courage of our nation to separate from the oppression of the ages, from the tyranny and despotism of the centuries, and from the attacks and incursions with those who would seek to remove our freedoms and way of life today.

The American flag represents progress and forward thinking, the ability to adapt and change as the situation dictates, the ability to regroup and lead the world in the great American experiment of representative democracy, to move ahead with the old ideals and the new perspectives to unite not only the states, but the world into international freedom and harmony.

Some may say that all this is "corny" and "sappy" but I insist that the American flag is the very symbol of all that we have and all that we hope for our future and our planet.

Google American flag to learn about the history and meaning of the flag.
